Green IT or Green computing

As the world embraces the idea of reducing environmental impact and “Going green”, businesses equally have a huge opportunity or even obligation to participate. One way businesses can get involved is through green computing, also referred to as green IT. By definition, green computing is “developing and using computer resources in an efficient way to improve economic viability, social responsibility, and environmental impact. (Schwalbe, 2010, p. 39) Some benefits of green computing include improved energy efficiency, improved life duration of technology products, carbon reduction, and cost savings through free open source program software, virtualization, and the use of better designed systems.

Schwalbe, K. (2010). Information Technology Project Management (6 ed.). Boston, MA: Course Technology, Cengage Learning.

This website was great: http://www.greenercomputing.com/

I studied the following topics:

The disposal of electronic waste and recycling
Telecommuting
Virtualization of server resources
Thin client solutions
and...
Use of open source software.

Very interesting field, with a lot of opportunities for research and development.
